On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we welcome you and encourage you to actively participate in the 47th SEBBM Congress, which will take place at the San Francisco de Cáceres Complex, in the heart of this historic city, from September 2 to 5, 2025.

During the congress, we will enjoy a wide variety of scientific and cultural activities, including Plenary Conferences, Symposia, such as the Spanish-Portuguese Scientific Symposium on Cancer, Meetings of the Scientific Groups of the SEBBM, Poster Sessions, and the Commercial Exhibition of our collaborating companies. In addition, the program will include several satellite activities such as the Introductory Course to Research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Professional Development Forum for Young Researchers, and the Biochemistry activities in the city, with exhibitions, scientific-artistic shows and workshops aimed at the general public.

The Plenary Lectures will be given by leading researchers in different areas, including:

Spetses Summer Courses are well known for covering various specialized topics within the general field of molecular and cell biology. This FEBS/EMBO Lecture Course is centred on microbiology, which has witnessed a renaissance over the last 20 years. The course will cover different aspects of this “New Microbiology”, including bacterial diversity and evolution, microbial communities and microbiotas, predation and symbiosis, biofilms, host-pathogen interactions, phage biology, bacterial biophysics and cryoelectron tomography.

This ‘FEBS3+ Meeting’, with the motto “Unlocking of the Secrets of Life”, is the XXVIIIth BIOCHEMISTRY CONGRESS of the Czech and Slovak Societies for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with participation of Polish and German Biochemical Societies.

The thematic focus of the congress is on structural-functional relationships in effector, signaling and regulatory pathways, on biological membranes and cell organelles, traditional topics of energy and substance metabolism with an emphasis on modern knowledge in the field of enzyme catalysis, including its importance for xenobiotic metabolism. Special attention will be paid to novelties in the field of nucleic acids and their components, gene expression, but also epigenetics. We aim at modern approaches in contemporary structural biology in connection with advanced “omics” technologies, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence, as well as “single cell” approaches with advanced high-resolution imaging methods and “high throughput” technologies in contemporary research practice in biochemistry and molecular biology. Molecular mechanisms of diseases and also news about viruses, microbes and parasites are not missing among presented and discussed topics.

After nearly a decade, we have again chosen the pleasant environment of the National Library of Technology in Prague for the congress with the necessary conference facilities, in the vicinity of Prague Castle and other sights and charming places in Prague. With the congress, we would like to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the original Czechoslovak Biochemical Society, recall its origins and discuss the current challenges of contemporary research in molecular life sciences.

Cells constantly surveil and monitor their proteins to ensure proper function. These processes, coined under the term proteostasis, span multiple steps from protein synthesis to folding and degradation. Extensive research in recent years has provided molecular insights into the mechanisms underlying proteostasis and its links to conditions such as neurodegeneration and aging.

The 2025 Joint FEBS/EMBO Lecture Course “Susan Lindquist School on Proteostasis” provides a comprehensive overview of past and current work in the proteostasis field to the next generation of scientists. The program includes review lectures, presentations on upcoming science, career development sessions, and numerous opportunities to interact with leaders in the proteostasis field.
