The Norwegian Bioscience Society

Mission & Vision

The Norwegian Bioscience Society (NBS), formerly known as the Norwegian Biochemistry Society, aims to be a scientific and social forum for scientists and students of biology in Norway. We are involved in stimulating young people to start a career in the biological sciences and have ambitions of becoming an influential actor in national science politics.

Key Activities

NBS is one of the founding members of FEBS and is also member of the IUBMB and EFB.

  • Our annual meeting (the “Contact meeting” in January) is extremely popular and is always oversubscribed.
  • We issue a quarterly newsletter (“NBS-nytt”) containing scientific articles, society and political matters, announcements of meetings and courses as well as commercial advertisements. The newsletter is in Norwegian and is sent to all members, for free.
  • NBS offers student travel fellowships to international meetings and organise scientific seminars and social meetings in the five university towns Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Tromsø and Ås.

History

NBS was established in 1964, and became member of FEBS the same year.

Membership

NBS has personal as well as corporate memberships, about 1500 altogether. Membership is open to anyone. The membership fee is low and even lower for students.
