Mitochondrial research has advanced significantly over the last decade due to the development of new techniques that allow the investigation of mitochondrial functions from new angles. This Joint FEBS/EMBO Lecture Course will cover diverse and prevalent topics related to mitochondrial biology, including I) mitochondrial biogenesis and the role of mitochondria in the control of cellular metabolism, II) mitochondrial dynamics and organellar quality control, III) mitochondrial communication with the cell with a focus on membrane contact sites, and IV) engineering of mitochondrial functions through the development of novel tools to study and functionally manipulate these complex organelles.

This meeting will involve scientists from population genetics, bioinformatics, microbiology, anthropology, archaeology and history and will strengthen future interactions in this young research field that is already changing the way we think about our past and will shape how we study genetic variation in the future.

On behalf of the Biomolecular Horizons 2024: Discover, Create, Innovate Organising Committee we are delighted to invite early career researchers to participate in the Young Scientist Program (YSP2024), taking place in the Macedon Ranges, Australia from Friday 20- Sunday 22 September 2024.

YSP2024 will bring together outstanding PhD candidates and early career researchers (<10 years post-PhD) from the FAOBMB region and IUBMB member countries for a 2-day scientific and networking program, prior to the Biomolecular Horizons 2024: Discover, Create, Innovate Congress.

During the 2-day scientific and networking program, the outstanding young scientists will have the opportunity to disseminate their research to an international audience, build their global network with peers, and promote their scientific career. As well as presentations from all participants, YSP2024 will include extensive networking opportunities and career-focused workshops. All participants will receive a Travel Fellowship to support their participation at both YSP2024 and Biomolecular Horizons 2024: Discover, Create, Innovate.

The overarching theme of the Biomolecular Horizons 2024 (BMH2024) Congress is: Discover, Create, Innovate, which will be covered in twelve Program Themes. Over the five days, the Congress will offer a series of plenary sessions, keynotes, symposia, and poster presentations. There will also be a dedicated Young Scientists Program, Outreach Events, Career Development Events, Education Events, Publication Workshops, Technical Workshops, Art Meets Science and Networking Events and a Government Industry Forum.

This important forum will bring together three prestigious congresses, each with a strong history of attracting the Bioscience and Biotechnology communities to discuss and examine the latest developments and research:

The meeting will provide a unique interdisciplinary exchange on current approaches and future collaborations on metastasis and its therapeutic challenges.

Metastasis research is a nexus for several of the most exciting areas and technical developments of current cancer biology and translational molecular medicine. High-resolution intravital imaging, single-cell sequencing and integrated genomics approaches, innovative tissue modelling, and co-culture systems for disease screening and patient stratification all have enormous implications for our basic understanding of the mechanisms of this deadly disease and hold great promises for progress in its successful treatment. This cutting-edge meeting is aimed at a broad spectrum of life scientists and clinicians working in cancer, immunology, cell and molecular biology.
