Editor in Chief, FEBS Letters
The not-for-profit Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) seeks an Editor in Chief for the journal FEBS Letters.
FEBS Letters has over 50 years of experience in publishing high-quality reviews, and original research articles in all areas of the molecular life sciences. The journal has a very wide readership and is renowned for its quality standards and speed of publication.
FEBS Press is the publishing enterprise of the four journals owned by FEBS (The FEBS Journal, FEBS Letters, Molecular Oncology and FEBS Open Bio). FEBS Press promotes the publication of high-quality journals run by scientists and for scientists, offering the same high standards of peer review and publishing ethics across all its titles. The FEBS Press journals offer the molecular life sciences community a place to showcase their work, while supporting their community.
We seek a high-profile academic to lead FEBS Letters and develop journal strategy together with the editorial team. The successful applicant should have previous editorial experience, proven leadership skills, and well-established influence in a broad field of research that fits the journal’s scope. A commitment to editorial excellence, ethical standards, sound judgment, and professionalism is essential.
Key responsibilities:
- Define and execute the journal’s long-term editorial strategy in collaboration with the FEBS Publications Committee, the FEBS Press Publisher and the journal Managing Editor.
- Build, lead, and mentor a diverse editorial board.
- Ensure a high-quality, fair, efficient, timely, and ethical peer review process.
- Formally approve retractions and expressions of concern.
- Have an active role in commissioning Reviews and front half content
- Serve as an ambassador for the journal as well as for FEBS Press at scientific meetings, with authors, and within the broader research community.
The Editor in Chief should preferably be located within Europe and will receive a competitive retainer for their work.
This is a paid position as an independent contractor, not with employment status. There are not set working hours, however the Editor-in-Chief is expected to be in regular daily contact with the journal team. Postdoctoral Researchers, ERC Advanced Grant “REVOLVER”

Description
The Laboratory for Genomics of Long Noncoding RNA and Disease (GOLD Lab) is recruiting three Postdoctoral Researchers for the ERC-funded REVOLVER programme.
The project will apply directed evolution to long noncoding RNAs to better understand their molecular mechanisms and explore their potential as therapeutics for liver disease.
Successful candidates will lead their own research area within an interdisciplinary team working across RNA biology, evolution, genome editing and translational medicine.

Head of Biobank (f/m/d)

Description
St. Anna CCRI is seeking a Head of Biobank to lead the strategic modernisation and integration of its established pediatric cancer biobank infrastructure. The role focuses on developing a state-of-the-art certified biobank connected to clinical, diagnostic and research data, supporting precision oncology and translational research.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and modernise the institutional biobank infrastructure
- Oversee biospecimen collection, processing, storage and governance
- Ensure compliance with ethical, regulatory and ISO quality standards
- Manage clinical trial-embedded biobanking activities
- Lead digital integration of biobank collections and metadata systems

Requirements
- PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in biomedical sciences or related field

Salary
Minimum annual gross salary: €73,000 (higher depending on qualifications and experience).

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) – Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology (Dortmund, Germany)
A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience led by Dr. Andrija Sente at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany. The position is available from January 2027 and is initially limited to 2 years. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, newly established research team with access to state-of-the-art core facilities for light and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometry.
Project & Responsibilities:
The researcher will investigate the cell biological pathways underlying the assembly of multimeric membrane proteins using CRISPR-based genetic screens, as well as mechanistic dissection using techniques from molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology.

15 PhD Positions, MSCA Doctoral Network ORFeus
Coordinator: Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, Utrecht, the Netherlands, with host institutions across Europe
Description
ORFeus is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network funded by Horizon Europe (Grant Agreement No. 101309891). The network focuses on the dark proteome, particularly microproteins translated from small open reading frames (smORFs) that have historically been considered non-coding.
The 15 PhD projects are hosted across 14 institutions in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Norway and Switzerland.
Research topics include microprotein discovery through ribosome profiling and mass spectrometry, functional characterisation using interaction mapping, thermal proteome profiling and protein design, and the role of microproteins in cancer and immunology, including immunopeptidomics. Projects range from fully experimental to fully computational.
Each doctoral candidate will carry out an individual research project, enrol in a PhD programme, complete an approximately three-month secondment with an industry or research partner, and participate in a network-wide training programme.
Positions are full-time, 36-month employment contracts under MSCA conditions.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics or a related field
- No doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
- Candidates must comply with the MSCA mobility rule: they must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the host country for more than 12 months during the 36 months prior to recruitment
- Candidates of any nationality are eligible

Predoctoral Position in Biochemistry, Metabolism and Cell Biology
Institution: Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona), Spain
The Neurolipid Group at UIC Barcelona is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a research project investigating the cellular and metabolic functions of Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase 1C (CPT1C), a protein involved in neuronal adaptation to metabolic stress and increasingly linked to cancer metabolism.
The project, entitled “Functional and mechanistic study of CPT1C in neuronal and glioblastoma models: metabolic regulation, Warburg phenotype and protein interaction networks”, will explore the role of CPT1C in glioblastoma metabolism and in the nervous system through the identification and validation of novel protein interaction networks.
The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary research environment combining biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, metabolism and neurobiology. Experimental approaches may include cell culture, CRISPR-based models, molecular biology techniques, protein interaction studies, metabolic assays, microscopy and bioenergetic analyses.
Your profile
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry or a related discipline
• Strong academic record and motivation for research
• Interest in metabolism, neurobiology and cell biology
• Previous experience in cell culture, molecular biology, protein analysis, microscopy, metabolism, proteomics or bioenergetics is advantageous
