Mission & Vision

The Israel Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ISBMB) has as its vision and mission to advance the sciences of biochemistry and molecular biology in Israel, i.e.,:

  • Advancing research and teaching in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology and related fields (such as biophysics, biotechnology, molecular genetics),
  • Establishing and supporting professional contacts and information exchange, including organisation of meetings, workshops, and seminars, between scientists in these fields within Israel and abroad,
  • To provide assistance in obtaining fellowships and other support and awarding prizes to scientists, teachers, and students in Israel and Israeli professionals abroad,
  • To broadening interactions between scientific activities in Israel in the above fields in academia and their implementation in medicine and industry.

Key Activities

  • Organisation of the annual scientific meeting of the ISBMB,
  • Awarding the Hestrin Prize for excellence in Biochemical Research to young scientists.

History

ISBMB was established in 1959, and became member of FEBS in 1965.

Membership

The number of members of the ISBMB is 250 (2005).

In general, the ISBMB accepts academically-qualified professionals in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, and related fields such as biophysics, biotechnology, and molecular genetics, who live and/or work in Israel. We also accept similarly qualified Israeli professionals who live or work abroad.
