In Memoriam: Claudina Rodrigues-Pousada (1940–2021)
Professor Claudina Rodrigues-Pousada contributed to FEBS over many years at different times – as a representative of the Portuguese Biochemical Society at FEBS Council, as Chair of the 27th FEBS Congress in Lisbon in 2001 (pictured right), as a member of the FEBS Executive Committee, and as the Chair of the FEBS Working Group on the Careers of Young Scientists (2005–2007, 2011–2017). The latter role focused on the delivery of the FEBS Young Scientists' Forum, the satellite meeting for postdocs and PhD students just ahead of the FEBS Congress, and it is for this work, carried out with passion and dedication, that she is particularly remembered at FEBS. In fact, she oversaw the successful delivery of nine YSFs in the period 2005–2017. She was awarded the FEBS Diplôme d'Honneur in 2009 in recognition of her outstanding service to FEBS.
The FEBS Network post 'Tribute: Claudina Rodrigues-Pousada (1940–2021)' is a reflection from the current Chair of the FEBS Working Group on the Careers of Young Scientist and recent YSF committee chairs, following Claudina's death earlier this year, while the earlier post ‘Nurturing the FEBS Young Scientists' Forum’ looked at her YSF role when she stepped down in 2017. For a wider post on her life as a researcher, see the news posting on the website of Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, Lisbon, here and an obituary in the journal Cell Stress and Chaperones here.
