IBiS to host the 2022 FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference
FEBS, IUBMB and the founding ENABLE institutes are delighted to welcome the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS), in Spain, as the host of the 2022 FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference. IBiS will become the new associated institution of the ENABLE conference series.
The ENABLE events, which are hosted at a different research institute each year, are organized by and for young researchers in the molecular life sciences. They have an international and interdisciplinary scope, and combine a world-class scientific symposium with a range of career and outreach activities. The aim of the initiative is to empower young researchers by giving them the necessary tools and inspiration to successfully organize a conference for their peers.
The first four conferences were held at IRB Barcelona (Barcelona), CPR (Copenhagen), RIMLS (Nijmegen) and SEMM (virtually from Milan), and were funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (2017-2020, grant agreement 724115), with additional sponsoring from FEBS and IUBMB. FEBS and IUBMB are now funding the conference series from 2022 to 2025, to ensure the continuation of this excellent initiative.
The team at IBiS submitted a successful application to the call for hosting institutions held in September 2021 by the ENABLE team. The PhD students and postdocs at the institute will now work with the organizers of the previous host institutions to deliver the next event, in November 2022.
About the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville
IBiS was founded in 2006 as a public interdisciplinary biomedical research institute focused on translational research. It covers five key areas: neurosciences; cardiovascular and respiratory pathology; oncohematology and genetics; infectious diseases and the immune system; and hepatic, digestive, and inflammatory diseases. It is located within one of the largest hospital campuses in Spain, drawing in top researchers from the main health care centers across the region.
The institute supports training in biomedicine at undergraduate, Master and PhD level, including medical specialists combining clinical duties and research. It also offers frequent seminars and workshops on scientific and other skills, such as science communication. IBiS hosts annual events that feature internationally renowned speakers and foster interaction between young researchers, and it organizes a set of supportive activities aimed specifically at PhD students, to address their concerns, increase their visibility, and provide them with networking and development opportunities.
Overall, the ENABLE team felt that the young researchers at IBiS were motivated and well supported to deliver a successful 2022 FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference. We are looking forward to working with them!
