The National Committee of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists

Mission and Vision

The National Committee of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (NCBMB) embraces citizens and organizations of Russia involved in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology activities. The Committee performs its activities in accordance with the Academy's Regulations and decrees as well as with Russia Constitution and legislation.

The Superior Body of the Committee is a Congress, which is held every five years. The Committee authorities are the Central Council, Central Council Board, and Bureau of the Board headed by elective President. The Control authority is auditing commission.

The Committee is aimed at assistance in education and research into Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and related areas. It promotes to apply research achievements to practical use. The Committee contributes to development and strengthening of collaboration among research and industrial institutions as well as to broader international contacts among scientists. Participation in worldwide research projects is also one of its major tasks. Furthermore, the Committee considers and prepares proposals on nomination of Russia representatives in authorities of International organisations.

History

In 2006 over the changes in the financial and organizational relationship between the Academy of Sciences and the Society of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (SBMB) and in accordance with the Academy's decree and the Society's Central Council decision the SBMB was renamed the National Committee of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (NCBMB).

SBMB, a voluntary scientifically public organization, was founded in 1959. 

Key Offfers

The Committee has established its 30 divisions in different regions of Russia and coordinates their activities. Moreover,

  • it arranges symposia, meetings, congresses, workshops, etc
  • it provides assistance in organizing scientists' participation in international symposia, meetings,  workshops, etc.;
  • it is a cofounder of research journals and issues its bulletin and circulars;
  • it is involved in issue of text books and manuals;

Membership

CBMB has approx 6500 members. Non-residential scientists can also join.
