Single Protein Mechanics,
Bilbao (Spain) from 20  _ 30September 2010.

Registration is free and open til 30 July. The web page is http://www.fundacionbiofisicabizkaia.org/bilbaobiophysics/

The first edition of the Bilbao Advanced Courses on Biophysics is organised by Prof. Julio M. Fernandez from Columbia University, New York and Unidad de Biofísica, a joint CSIC (National Research Council of Spain) and UPV/EHU (University of the Vasque Country).

The course is titled Single Protein Mechanics. It will last for ten days of lectures and experimental work starting 20th September. Key scientists in the field will deliver theoretical lectures on protein unfolding, protein folding and enzyme catalysis at the single-molecule level. Morning lectures will be complemented by the direct use of an Atomic Force Microscope in the afternoons. Interaction between participants and lecturers will be fostered.

The course on Single Protein Mechanics is open to participants who have at least a Masters degree in the life sciences or physical sciences. The number of attendees is limited to 15, and a number of accommodation grants in Bilbao will be awarded.

OzBio2010: 26 September - 1 October 2010, Melbourne Convention Centre
www.ozbio2010.com

OzBio2010 is a combination of the 12th IUBMB Conference (International Union for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), the 21st FAOBMB Conference (Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists) and ComBio2010 (incorporating the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Australian Society of Plant Scientists and the Australia and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology)

The early registration deadline has now closed, and we are pleased to advise we have over 1,400 registrations and close to 900 abstracts at this time.  The program committee have agreed to extend the poster abstract submission deadline (oral requests have now closed), and details of deadlines can be found on the abstract submission page at: www.asbmb.org.au/ozbio2010/abstracts.html but are also pasted at the end of this email.

We are also pleased to advise that the organizing committee are offering a special discounted "Honours Student Registration Fee" ("Honours" is a research based academic year taken at the completion of a bachelors degree) - of $325 to attend the full conference, and $80 to attend one day of the conference.  You must register your honours students no later than 27 August, to receive this discounted fee.  There is no requirement for an honours student to be a member of one of the participating societies and the one charge applies to all.

POSTER ABSTRACT EXTENSION DETAILS
Abstract submission for oral communication preference or requests has now closed.  However, we are pleased to advise the abstract deadline for poster abstract submissions has been extended - in the first instance to Monday, 3 May.  Poster abstracts submitted by Monday, 3 May will be programmed in themes within the program booklet, in the CD of abstracts, and also at the poster display at the conference.  After 3 May, poster abstracts may still be submitted, but will not be themed and will be included in "Late Posters" in both the program booklet, the CD of Abstracts and in a "Late Poster" section of the poster display.  Late poster abstracts can be accepted up to Wednesday, 28 July."

December

"Protein Structure and Dynamics"
Rome (Italy) on December 1-3, 2010
Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.

In February 1960, when the 3D structure of myoglobin and hemoglobin was solved, J. C. Kendrew and M. F. Perutz allegedly said that "looking into the structure was like seeing for the first time ever a new world". Their discovery opened new perspectives on fundamental aspects of molecular biology. Fifty years later, the Lincei conference in Rome will assemble scientists from biophysics, molecular cell biology, biochemistry, structural biology and bioinformatics with the common interest to explore the immensely important field of protein structure and dynamics.

Topics will include protein folding and binding, understanding the complexity of the conformational landscape, single molecule biophysics, metalloproteins in homeostasis and electron transfer, and cellular structural biology.

Invited speakers include:

Philip Anfinrud (USA), Lucia Banci (I), Ivano Bertini (I), Martino Bolognesi (I), Maurizio Brunori (I) Philip N. Bryan (USA), Paolo Carloni (I), Jean-Pierre Changeux (F), Jane Clarke (UK), William A.
